I needed something to lift up my laptop. I have a separate keyboard now - it fits nicely underneath the lowest shelf. The upper shelf holds some notepads, post-its, etc. It all stows away now and I have more room on my desk. This is a pretty heavy duty shelf - the top piece feels like MDF or something. This wasn't the cheapest shelf/riser, but the quality seems pretty good!
